Simply ask us to find out more… What's the difference between coming to Body for Life as opposed to a day spa? Well it all depends on what type of experience you are after. If you’re wanting a quality massage performed by qualified Remedial Therapists – then a spa may not be the best option.Beauty therapists will perform massage at Day Spas and whilst it will feel relaxing at the time, if you need greater attention to more specific issues, their qualifications may not allow for that. We can provide an assessment and get to the underlying cause of your pain. Our staff hold Diplomas in Remedial Massage and are all members of a relevant association. Our therapists are required to continue their learning with ongoing CPD education and skills upgrading on a regular basis. Our staff are also required to have up to date professional indemnity insurance and public liability insurance. What should I expect during my first massage therapy visit? Upon arrival you will be led to our lounge area where you will be offered a herbal tea or water. Here you will be asked to fill in our health history client intake form which you will hand to therapist when they call you through to your treatment room. Your therapist will begin by asking you general questions to establish what areas you would like worked on, if there are any conditions needing to be addressed and to determine what type of massage or combination of modalities is appropriate for you. Your massage therapist may perform certain assessments and testing to evaluate your condition, range of motion and to see if you have any particular complaints or areas of concern. Where will my massage session take place? Your massage will take place in a private, comfortable, quiet room. Easy listening music will be playing to help you relax, or you may choose to play your own music that you have with you, simply let the therapist know and they will turn off room speaker for you. Lighting can also be dimmed so please ask if you would prefer this. You will lie on a table especially designed for your comfort. What do I wear during the massage? To ensure our therapists can provide a full body massage, you will be asked to undress to your underwear. Your massage therapist will give you privacy to undress to your underwear, and you will be covered with a towel at all times except the area being worked on. At all times underwear must be worn, any request to massage nude will not be honoured, failing to comply with our requests will have the treatment cease immediately. Please understand that we do reserve the right to refuse treatment. Body for Life only performs professional, therapeutic massage treatment. How long will a massage treatment last? We recommend a massage treatment for 60 minutes, to give you the best results. We actually allow 75 minutes for our treatments to ensure clients get maximum treatment time and allows therapists have time to discuss treatments both before and after the session. If you would like a longer session please call the centre as not all our therapists offer extended massage times. What do I do during a massage therapy treatment? Make yourself comfortable. If your therapist wants you to adjust your position, she or he will either move you or will ask you to move what is needed. Many people close their eyes and relax completely during a session; others prefer to talk. It’s up to you. It is your massage and whatever feels natural to you is the best way to relax. Do not hesitate to ask questions at any time or ask the therapist to adjust the pressure that they are applying. I'm not an athlete, I'm just after a good firm massage? Great! You are in the right place. All this means is we can provide a Custom Massage which is a combination of Deep Tissue/Relaxation – allowing the therapist to provide you with the best possible massage for your needs. What is the difference between Deep Tissue and Remedial Massage? Deep tissue is more a whole body experience and offers therapeutic benefit from firm pressure. It’s a strong and relaxing massage that helps release muscle tension and enhance recovery from physical exercise. If you are wanting a Deep Tissue Massage at Body for Life we will book you in for what we call a Customised Massage.A Remedial Massage is a targeted treatment that identifies specific issues in the body and then uses expert massage techniques to treat them including trigger point release, myofascial release as well as incorporating deep tissue techniques to release muscle tension. Remedial massage is typically used for injuries, headaches and caters for those with chronic pain. Your therapist will conduct a postural assessment and range of motion testing to identify any limitations you may have.Remedial Massage is also covered by most health fund providers, if you have elected to be covered for it, you can claim on the day through our HICAP’s facility. I'm very particular about the pressure I like during the massage, is this ok? Absolutely! It is always best to call and speak to us if you have a special request as we can discuss your needs and then do our best to match you with the right therapist. During the massage, please know that we want you to speak up if we are applying too little/not enough pressure. We firmly believe that we work for you and we need to work together so that you get the best outcome. Some people love to have feet included in their massage for example, while others hate it. Getting the right pressure and style of massage is possible with communication about exactly what you would like. Can I get a massage whilst pregnant? Absolutely of course you can! But not during your first trimester (the first 12 weeks) Pregnancy Massage at Body For Life will only be performed by a fully qualified Pregnancy Specialist so you can rest assured you and your baby will be in the best possible hands.
